About the programme

Welcome to ACL's Web 2.0 program - License to Play!

Lcense to Play is the second online self paced learning program for ACL staff. We encourage you to build on your knowledge of free web 2.0 tools that are changing the way libraries staff and our customers access information and communicate with each other. The objective of this program is to encourage exploration and usage of Web 2.0 tools by ACL employees - giving you that license to play!

Web 2.0 tools are free technologies on the internet that are designed to allow social networking, be interactive and make it easy for you to create content.

Each week, staff read the discovery exercises to find out what you will be learning. Each week you are asked to Post comments in approximately 50 words on your Blog about the things you learned and experienced. Your post should contain comments on what you liked.....disliked......found easy or hard to do.......whether you would recommend this to customers....and how you think you could use these tools in your role.

During the program you will also be asked to set up a number of web 2.0 accounts. We encourage you to remain anonymous. As security is not a high risk, it is ok to use the same usernames and passwords so you don't forget them! We also recommend that you set up a separate Gmail to avoid receiving spam to your work email address.

If you find the discovery exercises hard to do, talk to your colleagues and try and work through the exercises together or take a look at other blogs on the tracking log. You can also email one of the administrators.

Each day our administrators will comment on your Post and provide feedback. They will refresh the tracking log by 1pm each day so you can check your progress.

This programm is based on the original 2.0 learn through play programme which was designed by Helene Blowers, Technology Director of Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County and is loosely based upon Stephen Abram's article, 43 Things I (or You) might want to do this year and the website 43Things.

Print one of the poster in the sidebar of this blog and put on your computer while you are doing this program. So get ready for a discovery adventure… and remember, we're giving you a license to play at work!
